Whether you are at a sportsbook or a daily fantasy sports platform, you will find a player prop in one form or another.

Contrary to your cookie-cutter moneyline bets, over/under total bets and point spread bets, player props can be more profitable and more fun to place and watch play out.

While player props are normally associated with sports betting, they are becoming more and more involved in the DFS space.

Contrary to your normal salary-cap-based DFS platforms like FanDuel and DraftKings, you will find diversity at others.

Apps like Drafters and Underdog Fantasy feature BestBall Fantasy – Underdog has a prop-based Pick’emstlye game too – while others that include Prize Picks and ThriveFantasy focus their contests around player props.

In this guide, I will review the games and contests that you will find at ThriveFantasy.

If you want an overall synopsis on ThriveFantasy, you can read my review right here.

What Is ThriveFantasy?

While most DFSplatforms require tons of research and in-depth knowledge of a deep player pool so you can find low-budget bargain players to add to your lineup, you don’t need that extensive knowledge at ThriveFantasy.

You just need to know the basics.

At ThriveFantasy, all you need to do is pick statistical props from players that you actually know.

Thrive focuses on the notable players from the biggest leagues in professional sports, which caters to both the casual fan as well as the veteran DFS player, eliminating the edge that the DFS shark will have at a salary-cap-based platform.

Sports That You Can Bet On

ThriveFantasy now offers its users 13 different sports and markets for contests, including the lottery, which is something I have not seen at any other DFS operator.

  • NFL
  • MLB
  • NBA
  • NHL
  • Golf
  • Soccer
  • eSports (CSGO, Dota2, LoL, Valorant)
  • Lottery

*Please note that while ThriveFantasy offers a lottery button in their contest lobby, there were no open games at the time of this writing.

I also could not find any information on it during my research either.

Contest Types At ThriveFantasy

ThriveFantasy features two primary contest types.

Traditional and Versus. Below, I will review each contest type in detail so you know how to play when you sign up at Thrive.

Traditional Contests

With traditional contests, you will find a collection of player props to select from.

Here are examples of the props you will find:

  • Jonathan Taylor to get Over/Under 0.5 rushing touchdowns in an NFL contest
  • Mike Trout to hit Over/Under 0.5 home runs in MLB
  • LeBron James to score over/Under 26.5 points in NBA
  • Mo Salah to score Over/Under 0.5 goals in soccer

In these traditional contest formats, you will find cash and GPP (guaranteed prize pool) games. Users will compete against other users and not against the house.

GPPs are normally larger contests with a lot of players in a tournament format whereas cash games feature smaller pools.

Thrive’s cash games are similar to double-ups and 50/50 games you will find at DraftKings and FanDuel where the top half of the player pool will win sorted out by points scored.

In GPP contests, a select portion of the player pool will win a predetermined piece of the prize pool depending on the game you entered.

For example, if you come in first, you will get the biggest prize. If you come in last, you will get nothing.

If you come in 10th place you will get a predetermined portion of the prize money and so on.

There are also Head-to-Head games that will put one user against another, where the winner takes all.

Versus Contests

Versus contests are similar to traditional contests in terms of the player props you will find.

However, in a versus contest, ThriveFantasy will put one player prop against another.

Here is an example:

  • Who will have more passing yards (Dak Prescott or Tom Brady)?
  • Which player will record more assists (Steph Curry or LaMelo Ball)?
  • Who will record more total bases (Trevor Story or Ty France)?
  • Which player will have more Goals + Assists (Claude Giroux or Anthony Duclair)?

Prop Lobby

ThriveFantasy also has a prop lobby. The prop lobby contests differ from traditional contests at Thrive.

Here, you will play against the house instead of other users.

At a prop lobby game, you will pick anywhere from 2-to-4 players to build your contest entry ticket. You can also build your ticket from any open market available, for the day at Thrive.

You are not tied to one sport or game.

Next, you will pick your entry fee. Entry fees range from $1-$200.

To win at ThriveFantasy’s prop lobby, you must get all of your picks correct to cash your ticket. The more legs that you choose, the more you can win.

These contests are similar to multipliers at FanDuel and DraftKings.

They also resemble parlays you will find in sportsbooks.

Scoring At ThriveFantasy’s Contests

ThriveFantasy offers its users a collection of player props to choose from in each contest format.

Then, Thrive will assign each prop a point value determined by the probability of the prop winning. This is like the juice attached to a prop at a sportsbook.

Obviously, the higher the risk, the more points you will get if your prop wins. Consequently, the lower the risk, the fewer points you will receive.

Once a user selects their player props, the max points total is accumulated based on their picks.

The user who accumulates the most points based on getting their picks right will be the winner.

Entry Fees For Contests At ThriveFantasy

Depending on the sport you choose and the type of content you choose, entry fees will range from free contests up to $10,000 contests.

When you are on Thrive, you can filter content types by the entry fee and by prize pool. You can also filter the type of content all in one place.

Free contests are identified by the term “Freeroll.” These contests are free to join with a minimum prize pool attached if any at all. Most Freerolls have a $25 prize pool and are in GPP formatted contests.

GPP-formatted prize pools are broken down by entry fees and entrants. If you join a GPP with a guaranteed prize pool of $1000, you will normally have a $20 entry fee with 55 contest entrants.

ThriveFantasy also takes less of a rake (vig) than other platforms. You will see that roughly 90%of entry fees are awarded back to the users themselves.

You will even find that some contests have a half-rake or no-rake whatsoever, which means 95% or 100% of the funds are going back to the users.

These contests are clearly advertised right in the contest lobby.

Meanwhile, larger competitions that include DraftKings and Fanduel take an 85%-88% rake.
