Canadian bettors have long wished for a decent sports betting scene, and it seems as though they can finally stop glaring at US bettors with envy.

After years of opting for subpar alternatives, punters in Canada can finally use legal, reputable sportsbooks to wager on their favorite teams.

On April 4, 2022, the Ontario sports betting market went live, and many privately owned sportsbooks entered the fray.

Unibet, a sportsbook with European roots that’s been around for over 2 decades, was one of the sportsbooks to launch on that fateful date.

Unibet Sportsbook has many neat features and could be your next betting destination. To help Canadian bettors out, here’s what to expect from this fun and exciting betting site.

Dozens of betting sites launched in Ontario on Monday, April 4, 2022; Unibet was part of that initial wave.

The Kindred Group, which is the company behind the Unibet sportsbook brand, announced on March 28, 2022, that they had secured approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), allowing them to meet the April 4 launch date.

Apart from launching in Ontario, Unibet Canada is expected to launch in provinces such as British Columbia and Alberta once such jurisdictions open up to other operators.

Unibet Sportsbook Top 3 Features

Unibet has been around for several decades in many unique markets, so they know a thing or two about pleasing sports bettors.

Once you sign up on the site, you can look forward to a few notable features, including the following:

  • Action betting – The ability to place quick live bets in various sports, e.g., you can wager on the next point in a tennis match.
  • Online casino – The site has a casino section with hundreds of games, including slots, table games, and live dealer games.
  • Same-game parlays – Bettors can build unique parlays that focus on events from the same game. Play Now

Unibet Sportsbook Vs. OLG PROLINE+

Unibet may be new to the Ontario sports betting market, but PROLINE+, a lottery-run sportsbook that’s controlled by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), was the only legal avenue for Ontario bettors who wanted to place online, single-game wagers before April 2022.

Now, with the entry of private sportsbooks, PROLINE+’s monopoly has been quashed as users can choose from several options.

One of these options is Unibet, and it’s worth doing a comparison to see how the site stacks up against OLG’s PROLINE+.

First, it’s important to consider what bettors are getting for signing up.

When it comes to sports markets offered, both Unibet and PROLINE+ cover the major sports, but you’ll have to go with the former if you’re looking for niche betting markets.

Also, bettors who are chasing value will be pleased by the odds and lines offered on Unibet, which allows them to get the most bang for their buck. State-run alternatives like PROLINE+ rarely offer great value.

Another important consideration is banking methods; on Unibet, bettors have a host of payment methods to choose from, while PROLINE+ limits bettors to 3 deposit methods and 1 withdrawal method.

Lastly, when it comes to mobile betting, both betting sites have great mobile apps, but the Unibet app will end up pleasing more bettors due to its feature-rich nature and also because it’s the sleeker of the two apps.

Unibet is clearly the better of the two sportsbooks, and we’re glad that Canadians finally have several great options instead of being forced to settle for a subpar alternative.
