After winning the tournament in 2017, Cameroon was on track for another African Cup of Nations final.

With their attackers playing out of their skin and the largest volume of fans as the host nation, it seemed written in the stars that Cameroon would go into the 2022 World Cup off the back of a major trophy win, but unfortunately, it was not to be.

An Egypt side, with the help of Mohamed Salah, stopped them in the semi-finals, knocking them out on penalties.

Cameroon will take confidence from their top-quality performances, though, and will look to build for the World Cup in the winter.

Qualifying now for their eighth World Cup finals, they are arguably at the peak of one of the best periods in their history and are propelled by a series of world-class players in a number of positions.

Most notably the AFCON 2022 top scorer, Vincent Aboubakar, bagged eight goals in his seven performances.

Cameroon has a series of other top players including Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Andre Onana of Inter Milan.

They have recently appointed a new manager in former player Rigobert Song, who has good experience in managing the team at the youth level.

Though they aren’t favorites to go far in Qatar World Cup, Cameroon is one of those countries that on their day can be a world-class team.

They also have very recent experience in reaching the final stages of a knockout tournament.

Cameroon Team Odds To Win World Cup

Unsurprisingly, Cameron is one of the tournament’s ranked outsiders at 250/1 (+25000).

However, they are blessed with a quality attacking force that will almost certainly have plenty of goals in them.

Unfortunately, they are drawn in a tough Group G with the competition favourites Brazil, Serbia, and Switzerland; all teams that appear to be in good form going into Qatar.

It is sure to be a competitive group and Cameroon are fourth favourites but still only 3/1 (+300) to qualify and 14/1 (+1400) to win it.

Cameroon’s first game of the tournament is against Switzerland which, though priced as underdogs, will have a fair chance of achieving a result.

They are 9/2 (+450) – original odds: 15/4 (+375) – to win, and 21/10 (+210) – original odds: 12/5 (+240) – to gain a draw.

If Cameroon does advance past their group they are 11/1 (+1100) – original odds: 7/1 (+700) – to then reach the quarter-finals.

As for reaching the semi-finals, it appears unlikely at 40/1 (+40000) – original odds: 7/1 (+700).

How To Bet On Cameroonian Team In Qatar

When deciding on what bets to put on Cameroon, it is worth looking into all the different options that are available and evaluating which one suits your requirements and predictions the best.

There are many unique ways a bettor can engage with betting companies and many ways a football match can change and evolve after the big kick-off.

Odds change every second and the unpredictability of football, player injuries, form and lucky goals can alter the odds and the results of matches.

It is good to review all of this when placing a bet and make sure all outcomes are considered in order to allow the best chance of success.

To help you we’ve rounded up some of the most popular betting types in the world of football.

Player Prop Bets

A player prop bet is betting on a player’s performance during a match at the World Cup, and in some cases isn’t reliant on the outcome of the fixture they are playing in.

An example of a player prop bet would be a bet on Vincent Aboubakar to score a hat-trick.

He could score a hat-trick but Cameroon could lose 4-3 to Brazil and the player prop bet would still be successful.

Team Prop Bets

A team props bet is essentially the same as a player prop bet but instead of targeting a specific player, it focuses on a team’s overall performance in a fixture or tournament.

You can bet on a team to perform in a certain way which, in Cameroon’s case, could be for them to keep a clean sheet against Switzerland.

Asian Handicap

An Asian handicap bet is a bet where a virtual headstart is given to one team.

This is an option because, with only three possible outcomes, the odds in football can be too short for punters to want to get involved.

This is particularly true with favourites against so-called weaker opponents.

With an Asian handicap bet, for instance, in a game between Cameroon and Switzerland at the World Cup, Switzerland will be the likely favourites, so the handicap could be set at 1.5 goals in their favor.

Switzerland would start with a virtual handicap of -1.5 goals and Cameroon would be given +1.5 goals.

If you’re backing Cameroon in the Asian handicap market, you’ll need them to lose by one goal, draw or even win for the handicap bet to be successful.

Goal Lines

Goal lines bets are those where you’re betting on the number of goals that will be scored during a match at the World Cup in total.

With teams like Cameroon, who have plenty of attacking quality, it might be wise to bet on their being 2.5 goals or more scored in a match.

Totals Bets

A bookmaker will predict how many goals will be scored during a match. A totals bet is betting on whether this prediction is too high or too low.

So, for example, the bookies might predict that there will be 4.5 goals between Brazil and Cameron and then it’s the punter’s job to decide if there will be more or less than that figure.

How To Sign Up At Sportsbook & Place A Bet On Cameroon

Now that you have a good idea of the kind of Cameroon bets you are keen to place, you need to sign up for an online betting account if you haven’t already.

There are a huge number of different sites out there all of which offer different odds, markets, and special offers.

It is worth researching which ones you like the most and which best suit your requirements.

For example, if you would like to bet on Vincent Aboubakar to score in Cameroon’s opening fixture, here is the best way to do it:

  1. Choose the bet you want to place and add it to the betting slip.
  2. Decide what amount of money you would like to bet.
  3. Make sure you have sufficient funds in your account. If not, you’ll need to make a deposit. You’ll be prompted to do this.
  4. Press “Place bet” once you are happy to go.
  5. Keep double-checking your betting slip as the match could go in an unpredictable direction and you may be offered a ‘cash out’ option.

Cameroon Team Overview For Qatar

Harshly knocked out in the semi-finals on penalties, it appeared Cameroon was on its way to another successful AFCON campaign this year after winning the 2017 edition of the tournament.

They missed all but one penalty in the shootout against Egypt, sending the Indomitable Lions crashing out of the tournament and spelling the end of manager Toni Conceicao.

With Rigobert Song now manning the ship, Cameroon will aim to refresh and go again in Qatar with the same strong team that came so close to another AFCON final.

They have some strong players in Vincent Aboubakar, who couldn’t stop scoring in AFCON, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has been in good form for Bayern Munich.

A series of other top players and a string of great form should send Cameroon into Qatar with plenty of confidence that they can get some good results.

Drawn against tournament favourites Brazil, as well as Switzerland and Serbia in Group G, it will be a tough group stage for the African nation and the odds of them reaching their second-ever knockout stage are slight, but in the form they are in, an upset or two wouldn’t be surprising.

Key Football Players

Cameroon will have a strong squad this winter with top-quality players in all positions on the pitch.

They look to have a solid defense with Harold Moukoudi of Saint Etienne the standout defender. In attack, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is another key player and one whose talents will be valuable in Qatar.

The Bayern Munich player will fill the striker position and will be joined by Vincent Aboubakar, the top scorer at AFCON in 2022.

The second top scorer at AFCON 2022, Karl Ekambi, supports the two frontmen on the wing and will aim to bring his goals and assists to a second major tournament of the year.

Inter Milan’s Andre Onana is back from his doping ban and will most likely represent Cameroon in Qatar between the sticks.

Injury List

Cameroon have the luxury of picking from a fully fit side, as none of their squad currently have injuries or knocks.

Coaching & Technical Staff

Cameroon appointed their new head coach Rigobert Song in March 2022 with the aim of breathing some fresh air into a squad that had just fallen short of making the AFCON final.

He arrives with his coaching staff; assistant manager, Sebastien Migne, and Souleymanou Hamidou, the goalkeeping coach, all appointed together as a new era of management in Cameroon.

Song comes with a host of experience working with Cameroon youth teams and under-23s since 2012, so he will have good knowledge of the squad and what best suits them going forward.

He briefly managed the Cameroonian team in 2018 for a few months so he will hope can prove himself this time going into Qatar.

Cameroon Team Road To Qatar

A comfortable qualifying process for the African nation saw them finish top of their second-round group where they eclipsed Ivory Coast to the top spot with five wins out of six.

Throughout the campaign, Cameroon predominantly played the attacking and possession-based formation of 4-3-3 while occasionally adopting a 4-2-3-1.

Both formations are set out with the plan to attack the opponent and Cameroon executed the plans well, scoring 15 times in eight fixtures.

Cameron’s defence was solid in qualifying conceding just five times in eight games. Most of these results came against lower quality sides, so it’s likely they’ll be tested significantly more in Qatar.

Highlights of the qualifying campaign include a victory over Ivory Coast, a 4-0 win over Malawi, and good wins against Mozambique and Algeria.

In the qualifiers, Cameroon found their goalscoring form and couldn’t be stopped cruising to automatic World Cup qualification.

They’ll take much confidence from their route to Qatar as well as their run at AFCON and come into this in good form.

Cameroon’s World Cup History

Cameroon’s World Cup record isn’t glittered with success, but it showcases a nation that is capable of producing some world-class talent every now and then. In their second-ever World Cup in 1990, Cameroon made it to the quarter-finals after beating Colombia in extra time.

They were knocked out by England but making the last eight in just their second-ever World Cup appearance was an incredible achievement and one they should be proud of.

Since then, Cameroon, which has long been one of the best in the African continent, has qualified for six World Cups, though have failed to recreate its knockout heroics of 1990.

Recent World Cup tournaments for Cameroon will have been disappointing for the 2017 AFCON winners, finishing the last two with zero points.

Cameroonian Fans

Cameroon has a set of passionate fans that were more than happy to host the 2022 African Cup of Nations and often outnumber their opponent’s supporters.

Cameroon fans, like those of many African nations, are colorful, vibrant, and energetic and commonly engage in dancing and drumming in the stadiums during games.

They were in fantastic voice throughout Cameroon’s games at AFCON 2022 but the exit at the semi-final stage sent the host fans into mourning.
