2024 Serie A Top 4 Betting Odds

2024 Serie A Top 4 Betting Odds

Since the 2017/18 season, the top four teams in the Serie A have directly qualified for the UEFA Champions League, and this has increased the competition for the top four slots.

Last season’s top four race was one of the best in recent memory. Then defending champions, Juventus, almost failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, but Napoli drew on the final day of the season and were the ones who missed out on the top four.

If this season’s top four race is as dramatic as last season’s, then we’re in for quite the campaign. This season, as many as 7 teams will be actively competing for the top 4 slots, in addition to challenging for the title.

And since no position in the league is guaranteed, we might see some upsets when the season ends in May.

So here’s our Serie A top 4 betting preview.

How Is The Winner Decided?

The league’s top four teams automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Points are used to rank teams in the league, so the four Serie A teams with the most points are the ones that make up the league’s top four teams.

In case two or more teams have the same number of points, tiebreakers become a priority in such scenarios. In Serie A, head-to-head points is the default tiebreaker.

These other tiebreakers will be used if the teams can’t be separated by the initial tiebreaker:

  1. Goal difference in head-to-head games.
  2. A team’s overall goal difference.
  3. The number of goals scored.

Serie A Top 4 Betting Odds Report

Napoli will want to make amends after missing out on the top four last season.

Inter Milan and Juventus are tipped to struggle this season, which may create a great opportunity for Napoli and other teams like Roma and Lazio.

Atalanta has finished in the top three in the past three seasons, and Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will want to continue that trend.

The Favorites

Inter Milan – Last season’s champions will want to defend their title, but they’ll have to do it without many of last season’s stars. For starters, Antonio Conte left the team and was replaced by Simone Inzaghi, who most recently coached Lazio.

Romelu Lukaku, Inter’s top goalscorer last season, left for Chelsea, while Achraf Hakimi was signed by PSG. But, despite losing such stars, Inter still has a good enough roster and should still be expected to finish in the top four.

Juventus – Of all the teams on this list, Juventus have the best top-four record. The Old Lady has qualified for the UEFA Champions League in each of the past ten seasons. The last time they failed to do so was in 2011.

So, despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo, Juve still has history on their side. Even better, Massimiliano Allegri is back at the helm. Allegri was an integral part of Juventus’s recent success; he led the Old Lady to 5 consecutive Scudettos from 2015 to 2019.

Allegri’s main target this season will be to improve on the club’s fourth-place finish last season.

S.S.C. Napoli – Napoli was on the verge of making the top four last season, but they drew on the final day of the season and surrendered their UEFA Champions League spot to Juventus.

In the end, they finished 1 point behind Juventus. This must have been a bitter pill to swallow, especially because they had a better head-to-head record over Juventus.

So, this season, they’ll want to avoid such mistakes if they want to qualify for the UEFA Champions League once again. The last time that they finished in the top four was in the 2018/19 season.

A.C. Milan – AC Milan finished second last season, and this was their best league ranking since the 2011/12 season. They also qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 8 years.

Stefano Pioli has massively transformed the team, and he’ll be hoping to make sure that his team consistently qualifies for the Champions League from now on.

The Contenders

Atalanta B.C. – La Dea has been one of Serie A’s most entertaining teams, and their attacking style of play has gifted their qualification to the UEFA Champions League in each of the past three seasons.

They finished third last season, and the last time that Gasperini’s men failed to finish in the top four was in the 2017/18 season.

AS Roma – With Jose Mourinho at the helm, Champions League qualification will be the least of Roma’s targets. Roma finished 7th last season, and Mourinho will be determined to take the Rome-based club back to their previous heights.

SS Lazio – Lazio has been in and out of the top four in recent seasons. In the 2019/20 season, they finished fourth, but they failed to compete for the top four last season and ended up finishing in 6th place.

Maurizio Sarri is their new coach, and he’ll want to lead Lazio back to the UEFA Champions League.

ACF Fiorentina – Fiorentina hasn’t played in the UEFA Champions League since the 2009/10 season. They finished in 13th place last season but have managed to keep in-demand youngster Dušan Vlahović.

This season, Vincenzo Italiano is their new head coach, and his main target will be to guide Fiorentina back to European football.

U.S. Sassuolo Calcio – Sassuolo have never qualified for the UEFA Champions League, but they’ve come close in recent seasons. Last season, they were Serie A’s 8th best team. The most realistic target for head coach Alessio Dionisi will be to finish in the top six this season.
