2024 Serie A Top Goalscorer Betting Odds

2024 Serie A Top Goalscorer Betting Odds

Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo may have left Serie A, but there are many star strikers in the league who can still score lots of goals.

Ronaldo scored 29 goals in Serie A last season, which earned him the honor of being the league’s top scorer. This season, a different striker will hope to take over the reins from the Portuguese marksman.

Ciro Immobile and Edin Dzeko, who’ve both previously topped the Serie A scoring charts, are the bookies’ favorites this season.

Other forwards like Lautaro Martinez, Duvan Zapata, Victor Osimhen, and Luis Muriel are also heavily favored in this category.

Read on for our Serie A top goalscorer betting preview.

How Is The Winner Decided?

To be Serie A’s top goalscorer, a player needs to score the highest number of league goals during the 38-game season.

The top scorer receives the Capocannoniere award, which, from 2021, is also called the Paolo Rossi Award.

The award can be shared if two or more players are tied at the top with the same number of league goals.

Serie A Top Goalscorer Betting Odds Report

This season, there are four previous Capocannoniere winners. These are the following players: Ciro Immobile, Fabio Quagliarella, Edin Dzeko, and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala have never won the top goalscorer award. However, they’ll need to produce goals this season if they want to fill the gaps that have been left by Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Other forwards in the league will be looking to step up and prove that they can also reach the heights that were previously set by the two departing forwards.

The Favorites

Ciro Immobile – Ciro Immobile has won the Capocannoniere on three separate occasions, making him the bookies’ favorite this season.

He was the top scorer in the 2013/14 season when he played for Torino, and the 2017/18 and 2019/20 seasons while playing for Lazio, his current team.

During the 2019/20 season, he scored 36 goals and also won the European Golden Shoe. Last season, he scored 20 league goals and also won Euro 2020 with Italy.

Edin Dzeko – Dzeko is a stalwart of the modern game. He’s performed in every league that he’s played in, and he also has the accolades to back up his worth.

He’s also won many previous top scorer awards. During the 2009/10 season, he was the top scorer in the Bundesliga while playing for VfL Wolfsburg.

In Serie A, he was the league’s top scorer during the 2016/17 season when he scored 29 league goals for Roma. This season, he’s at Inter Milan, and he’ll be eager to show that age is just a number to him.

Luis Muriel – Luis Muriel is one of Atalanta’s main attacking threats. He joined Atalanta in 2019 and has scored many goals for them.

He scored 18 league goals in his first season, and he bettered that tally by scoring 22 goals during the 2020/21 Serie A season.

Now that he’s the club’s go-to striker, he’ll want to prove that he can lead the line alongside Duvan Zapata, his fellow Colombian.

Victor Osimhen – Nigerian youngster Victor Osimhen was signed by Napoli in 2020 for a rather hefty fee. Napoli paid out €70 million (around $90 million) for the services of Victor Osimhen, making him the club’s most expensive player in their history.

His transfer fee also eclipsed Nicolas Pepe’s fee, making Osihmen the most expensive African player at the time of his purchase.

Obviously, such a hefty price tag is a burden by itself, which could explain why Osimhen didn’t really shine in his first season at the club.

Sure, he scored 14 league goals, but more was expected from such a highly-rated youngster.

This season, however, he looks like he’s settled in the squad, and he may an integral part of Napoli’s potential title charge.

Lautaro Martinez – Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez had formed a deadly partnership with Romelu Lukaku, but the Inter Milan striker is expected to be the team’s main attacking threat after Lukaku’s exit.

He scored 17 goals last season, but he’ll be expected to improve his output if he wants to help his team defend their title.

The Contenders

Duvan Zapata – Since he was loaned out to Atalanta, Zapata has been the team’s top scorer on many different occasions.

He’s scored more than 50 league goals for Atalanta and has helped them prove that they are a worthy top-four team. Last season, he scored 15 league goals and guided Atalanta to their third consecutive third-place finish.

Paulo Dybala – Now that Ronaldo is out of Juve’s spotlight, Dybala finally has the chance to shine once again.

He’s been inconsistent in the past few seasons, and his numbers have been severely below par, especially for a player of his level.

Last season, he scored 4 league goals, but his early-season form shows that he’ll easily surpass that tally if he avoids another injury-stricken season.

Dušan Vlahović – Vlahović is one of Serie A’s most exciting talents. The Serbian scored 21 league goals for Fiorentina last season; a tally that was only bettered by three other players in the league.

If he wants to secure a move to a big club, he’ll need to prove that he’s not a one-season wonder and produce similar numbers this season.

Domenico Berardi – Berardi has always been destined for the top, but he’s also had a very inconsistent playing career. Last season, the Italian striker was back to his best.

He scored 17 league goals for Sassuolo, which is his best league tally ever. Berardi was also an integral part of the Italian squad that won UEFA Euro 2020.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – This may be the last season that Ibrahimovic plays before he retires. Recent injuries have reduced his playing time, but he still has the skill to score in any league despite his age.

He scored 15 league goals last season, and the Lion will be hoping to better that tally before he finally hangs up his boots.

Tammy Abraham – Abraham, a former Chelsea player, joined Jose Mourinho at As Roma. He scored 6 goals in the Premier League last season, despite playing second fiddle to the likes of Timo Werner.

This season, he’s expected to score more goals if he gets more playing time.
