2024 Ligue 1 Top Goalscorer Betting Odds

This season’s Ligue 1 top goalscorer race is going to be an unpredictable one. The addition of Lionel Messi throws everything up in the air, and this increased competition guarantees us that the other strikers in the league are also going to step up their game this season.

Of course, the bookies’ favorites this season are Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Messi won multiple goalscoring awards during his time at Barcelona, and he’ll be hoping to add a Ligue 1 goal-scoring accolade to his collection.

Mbappe was the top scorer last season, and he’s been Ligue 1’s top goalscorer in each of the last three seasons. This season, the World Cup winner will be eager to prove that he can outshine Messi, his new teammate.

Other players like Wissam Ben Yedder, Jonathan David, and Neymar are also expected to be a part of the top scorer race this season.

Here’s our Ligue 1 top goalscorer betting preview.

How Is The Winner Decided?

The player that scores the most goals in the league wins Ligue 1’s top goalscorer award. The award can be shared if two or more Ligue 1 players score the same number of league goals.

Ligue 1 Top Goalscorer Betting Odds Report

In addition to dominating the league, PSG has also dominated the top goalscorer race in recent seasons. A PSG player has topped the goalscoring charts in nine of the last ten seasons.

This season, most of the bookies’ favorites are from PSG, so there’s immense value in backing a PSG player to outscore the competition, especially when it involves the likes of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe.

The Favorites

Lionel Messi – For the first time in his career, Lionel Messi will play for another team other than Barcelona. Messi is arguably the best player in the world, and he’ll be eager to prove that he can shine in another league.

Messi scored 30 league goals last season and was La Liga’s top scorer. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has a goalscoring pedigree that has made him one of the best players in history.

He won 8 La Liga top scorer awards during his time at Barcelona, including the last 5 awards, and has many other accolades under his legendary name.

He’s the runaway favorite for the top scorer award this season, but it’s fair to say that the bookies’ trust isn’t at all misguided.

Kylian Mbappe – Mbappe wanted to engineer a move away from PSG during the summer transfer window, but he’s staying at the club for at least one more season.

This means that he’ll want to prove his worth, especially if he’s still expecting to end up at Real Madrid.

Mbappe has arguably been PSG’s best player in recent seasons. He scored 27 league goals last season and was the top scorer in Ligue 1. In each of the last three seasons, he’s won the top scorer award, and he’ll want to prove that he can do it again in what could be his final season at the club.

Wissam Ben Yedder – Ben Yedder was instrumental in Monaco’s league pursuits last season. He scored 20 league goals, a tally that was only bettered by Kylian Mbappe, and his goals helped his team finish in third place.

In the shortened 2019/20 season, he scored the same number of goals as Kylian Mbappe and won the top scorer award that season.

Monaco may have signed Myron Boadu from AZ Alkmaar, but Ben Yedder is still expected to lead the line this season.

Jonathan David – Lille signed Jonathan David before the start of the 2020/21 season. His reported transfer fee was €30 million ($35.23 million)—the highest transfer fee ever for a Canadian player.

That seemed like a large sum at the time, but it eventually paid off. The Canadian scored 13 goals in his debut season and guided Lille to the Ligue 1 title. Now that he’s settled at the club, he’s expected to better his previous 13-goal tally.

Neymar – It’s fair to say that Neymar hasn’t scored as many goals as he was initially expected to. This is because he’s largely been deployed as a playmaker. But with the arrival of Messi, Neymar will be expected to play further forward, meaning that he could increase his goal tally.

He scored 9 league goals last season, though he missed a lot of games because of injury problems. If he manages to stay fit this season, he can rekindle his partnership with Messi and light up the league once again.

The Contenders

Kevin Volland – Volland joined Monaco last season and guided his team to third place. He scored 16 goals in his debut season and formed a great partnership with Ben Yedder. The prolific duo is still expected to be at the forefront of Monaco’s attack this season, meaning that Volland could score many more goals this season.

Burak Yilmaz – Speaking of prolific duos, Burak Yilmaz and Jonathan David are a prime example of a great partnership. Yilmaz scored 16 goals last season and was Lille’s top scorer. His partnership with David was integral in Lille’s title-winning season.

If Lille wants to defend the title this season, then Les Dogues will need to rely on Yilmaz’s goals.

Arkadiusz Milik – Milik joined Marseille on an 18-month loan deal in the January transfer window but still managed to score lots of goals. He made 15 Ligue 1 appearances last season and scored 9 goals, which is a return that any striker would be proud of.

If he can manage to stay fit this season, then Marseille has a striker that they can count on.

Gaëtan Laborde – Laborde scored 16 goals for Montpellier last season. He joined Rennes during the summer transfer window but is still expected to lead the line and score plenty of goals for his new club.

Amine Gouiri – Amine Gouiri is a talented youngster with a promising future. Gouri joined Nice last season and scored 12 league goals in his debut season. He has strong ambitions and wants to feature for the France national football team, but he’ll first need to prove his worth again this season.
