Since the legalization of sports betting, many offshore sportsbooks—legal ones, of course—have taken a punt at stateside success.

The likes of Bet 365 and PointsBet, both major international brands, have been able to find reasonable success in an already crowded niche. PlayUp, an Australian bookie that launched in the U.S. in 2021, will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of such brands.

To lure bettors to the site, PlayUp is rewarding new users with a dollar-for-dollar deposit match bonus.

The sportsbook is currently live in two states, Colorado and New Jersey, but there are concrete plans to widen the sportsbook’s reach, with Indiana and Iowa destined to be the site’s next destinations.

To help you figure out if PlayUp is worthy of your betting dollars, we’ve put together a detailed review.

Would We Place Sports Bets At PlayUp Sportsbook?

PlayUp Sportsbook is an utterly impressive betting site. With a generous welcome offer, a sleek mobile app, and a variety of markets, the site seems destined to be a major player in the U.S. sports betting market.

If the site widens its reach by opening up in a few more states and introduces a traditional rewards program, PlayUp may even end up rivaling some of the industry’s top sportsbooks.

For now, even with the few cons that we’ve mentioned, PlayUp is still an exciting sportsbook, and most bettors who join the site should be pleased by it.

Betting Odds Quality

The odds offered by PlayUp Sportsbook aren’t necessarily good or bad. You may find extreme value on a few occasions, but, most of the time, you’ll be dealing with standard odds that match the prices offered by other sportsbooks.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since only a handful of sportsbooks tend to offer extremely competitive odds.

An In-Depth Look At PlayUp

Compared to some of the sites we’ve reviewed, PlayUp is still a relatively new sportsbook. The site launched in Australia in 2019 but has quickly made a name for itself during its brief life span.

Following its offshore success, PlayUp decided to venture into the U.S.-regulated sports betting market.

The site launched in Colorado in March 2021 after gaining access to the state’s market through a partnership with the Bull Durham Saloon and Casino, a land-based casino that’s located in Black Hawk.

Months later, in October of the same year, PlayUp went live in New Jersey. This time, the sportsbook gained access to the New Jersey market after partnering with Freehold Raceway.

PlayUp also signed a multi-year partnership with the New Jersey Devils in a bid to promote the site before its New Jersey launch.

PlayUp’s U.S. operations are headquartered in Las Vegas. Aside from the United States, PlayUp also operates in Australia, New Zealand, and India, making it an international brand.

PlayUp Bonus Details

New users who sign up at PlayUp Sportsbook have the following offer to look forward to: a 100% Deposit Match Bonus up to $500.

This simply means that your first deposit on the site will be matched by the sportsbook.

So let’s say you create a PlayUp betting account and deposit $300 after it’s verified, PlayUp will reward you with a dollar-for-dollar match, giving you a total of $600 to fund your new betting exploits on the site.

Of course, terms and conditions are attached to every welcome bonus. Regarding PlayUp’s $500 deposit match bonus, bettors need to keep the following key terms in mind:

  • You need to deposit at least $50 after signing up
  • Bonus needs to be wagered on events priced at -200 or higher
  • Bonus funds have a 90-day validity period
  • The bonus has a 1x rollover
  • The maximum you can receive from this welcome promo is $500

Aside from this, PlayUp is known for having other impressive sports-specific bonuses and promotions. If you want to stay in the loop, always check the promotions page to see the site’s latest promos.

Registration Process At PlayUp

While some sportsbooks complicate the sign-up process, PlayUp has ensured that new users can easily join the site. If you’re looking to do so, just follow these steps:

  1. Go to PlayUp’s main website and choose the state you’re from.
  2. Click register to launch the registration process.
  3. You’ll need to input the following personal details: your name, email, phone number, age, final four digits of your SSN, and physical address details.
  4. Choose a username and password. PlayUp will also require that you set up a few security questions and answers to further protect your account. You can also opt for strong authentication if you wish. Once done, agree to the sportsbook’s terms, then sign up.
  5. You won’t be able to deposit funds or claim your bonus until you verify your account. To do so, just upload a pic of an official photo ID and a document that verifies your address. For example, you can upload a lease agreement or a utility bill to prove your residency.
  6. If everything is alright, your account will be verified. You can now make a deposit to claim the site’s $500 deposit match bonus.

If you had previously created a PlayUp betting account, you don’t need to re-register; just use the details of your old account to sign in to the sportsbook.

If you try to create a second account, PlayUp will notice this when they are verifying your new account, and this could lead to both of your playing accounts being banned.

Just stick to one betting account to avoid this unnecessary back and forth with them.

PlayUp App Experience

Bettors can conveniently place wagers using the PlayUp mobile app, meaning that you don’t have to rely on the sportsbook’s desktop or mobile site to place bets.

iOS users can download the PlayUp app from the App Store, while Android users just need to head over to the Google Play Store to get a compatible version of the app.

As we mentioned in the pros and cons section, we were extremely pleased with the PlayUp mobile app. First, the app has a stunning design.

The colors used—gray and black for the background and green and white for headers, menus, and selections—blend perfectly to create a visually appealing app.

Aside from that, the app barely has any lag, and navigation is super smooth, guaranteeing bettors a seamless betting experience. Everything is also well arranged, and all the texts on the app are legible.

If you’re worried that you’re settling for a lesser experience by opting for the app instead of PlayUp’s desktop site, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are no tradeoffs.

So every major feature that’s on the desktop site—including betting markets—is also available on the PlayUp app.

GeoComply

GeoComply has been at the core of the regulated sports betting industry.

If you’re unaware of what GeoComply is, it’s a tool used by most sportsbooks that helps them know if they are serving bettors from legal jurisdictions since certain states still haven’t legalized online sports betting.

Even if you try to use a VPN to mask your location, this software will be able to know that you’re spoofing your true location.

To use GeoComply, bettors using a PC, laptop, or desktop will need to download and install the browser extension.

Mobile bettors, on the other hand, don’t need to download an app in most cases. However, you’ll need to activate your location services when you’re using the PlayUp app.

PlayUp Site Experience

Just like the mobile app, PlayUp’s desktop site features the same color scheme.

Again, the site’s primary colors—green, white, gray, and black—blend perfectly to create an alluring site, and they gain points from us for this stunning design.

The site’s layout is pretty standard. If you’ve ever used an online sportsbook, you know how everything is arranged: sports are listed on the left, shortcuts are on the top menu, betting markets and odds populate the center of the screen, while the right-hand side is where your bet slip ends up.

Surprisingly, we didn’t see a search button during our review. We all know how crucial a search button can be, especially when you’re in a rush and want to place a quick wager.

Regardless of this miss, we were still pleased with PlayUp’s desktop site, and we’re sure that most bettors will be pleased with it as well.

PlayUp Sports Betting

PlayUp is an international brand, so you can expect a variety of sports from them. This means you don’t have to settle for the major American sports since you have other betting markets to choose from.

Here’s a list of all the sports PlayUp allows you to bet on:

  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • American Football
  • Hockey
  • Soccer
  • Golf
  • Tennis and Table Tennis
  • Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing
  • Motorsports
  • Nascar
  • Formula 1

PlayUp Sportsbook also allows you to place a variety of wagers. You’ll find most of the bet types listed down below:

  • Prop bets
  • Totals bets
  • Futures bets
  • Point Spreads
  • First half
  • Second half
  • Live bets
  • Parlays
  • Same-game parlays
  • Moneyline bets
  • Teasers

Notable Features

Since PlayUp is still relatively new and is trying to stand out from the competition, the sportsbook has a few unique features up its sleeve. Some of these include the following:

  • Early Cash Out: You don’t have to wait till the end of the game for your bet to be settled.
  • Bet Builder: In sports like football, basketball, and soccer, bettors can combine bets from a single game to create a same-game parlay.
  • Slots: Bettors can also download the casino app and play slots for real money.

Understanding Betting Options

The minimum amount that PlayUp will allow you to wager is $1.

Like most sportsbooks, the maximum you can wager will depend on the sport and/or the wager you want to place. You can consult the site’s customer support to know the exact maximum for each sport.

Reduced juice—which is when sportsbooks reduce their commission on certain wagers, meaning that you get more for risking the same amount—sadly isn’t an available option. As you’ll see on the site, most totals and point spreads are priced at -110.

Deposit & Withdrawals

PlayUp Sportsbook has listed a plethora of banking methods. If you wish to make a deposit, you can use either of the following methods:

  • VIP Preferred
  • PlayUp Play+ Card
  • Skrill
  • Credit/debit card
  • Paysafe card

Most deposit methods are instant. The minimum you can deposit using most methods is $10.

You can sign up for PlayUp’s Play+ Card, and you should get the card within two weeks.

Aside from funding your PlayUp betting account, you can use the card for your day-to-day purchases, as long as you’re using it in places where Discover® is accepted.

If you wish to withdraw funds from your betting account, here are the methods that PlayUp allows you to use:

  • VIP Preferred – Funds should arrive in 3-5 business days
  • Play+ – Funds will take 1 business day to arrive
  • Skrill – Funds will take 1 business day to arrive

PlayUp State Restrictions

At the time of writing, PlayUp is still relatively new, and that’s why the sportsbook has a limited reach. Currently, only users based in New Jersey or Colorado can access the site.

However, both PlayUp Indiana and PlayUp Iowa are expected to launch soon, and the sportsbook has concrete plans to widen its reach beyond those two states.

Loyalty Program

As we noted in our pros and cons section, PlayUp doesn’t have a traditional rewards program, though the sportsbook often rewards bettors by offering specials now and then.

Despite this, we’re hoping that the site opts for a traditional loyalty program in the future.

Customer Service

Despite lacking 24/7 customer support, bettors can still depend on PlayUp’s customer support.

If you wish to contact PlayUp’s customer service team directly, you can use either of the following methods:

  • Live chat: Available 14 hours a day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mountain Time
  • Email: help@playupusa.com
  • Phone: (719) 455 2012

Their live chat is currently only available in Colorado, but it should be available to New Jersey bettors soon. PlayUp also has a detailed FAQ page.

PlayUp Sportsbook Safety And Security

PlayUp is a safe and secure site. State-of-the-art cybersecurity measures are implemented to safeguard your account information and funds, giving PlayUp the security of a financial institution.

Aside from that, PlayUp only operates legally, meaning that they’ve met certain safety and security requirements in order to receive licenses in both Colorado and New Jersey.

However, this doesn’t mean that you can rest on your laurels; remember, a strong username and password is the first step to a safe betting account.
