The NHL Playoffs continue on Tuesday with four Round 1 matchups that are potentially elimination games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are down 3-1 to the Boston Bruins, but most importantly, they may be down Auston Matthews.

Matthews has missed practice due to an illness, and his status for Game 5 is uncertain.

The Carolina Hurricanes lead 3-1 over the New York Islanders, just narrowly missing the sweep with a two-overtime loss in Game 4.

Carolina’s depth at forward has been on display, with 11 of their 12 forwards recording a point in the first four games. Only Jesperi Kotkaniemi has failed to register a point.

The Winnipeg Jets will have their backs against the wall at home tonight against the Colorado Avalanche.

Winnipeg is down 3-1, and much of their struggles have come from likely Vezina Trophy winning goalie Connor Hellebuyck. After winning 37 games with a 2.39 goals against average and .921 save percentage, Hellebuyck has wilted against Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar of Colorado.

In four games against the Avs, Hellebuyck is 1-3 with a 5.22 goals against average and an .870 save percentage.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Nashville Predators tonight, and the Canucks will look to move on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs at home.

Each of Vancouver’s three wins have been recorded by a different goalie; Thatcher Demko in Game 1, Casey DeSmith in Game 3, and Arturs Silovs in Game 4.

Four teams could be eliminated from NHL action tonight, but let’s take a look at the action on the player props market and pinpoint a few worthwhile bets, including the best odds.

David Pastrnak – RW, Boston Bruins

Bruins’ winger David Pastrnak recorded 47 goals, 63 assists and 110 points in 82 games in the regular season, including 37 multi-point games.

That is a multi-point game in 45.1% of games played.

In the first four games of Boston’s Round 1 series against Toronto, Pastrnak has scored one point in each game, but has yet to tally a multi-point performance.

Tonight, with the Maple Leafs going with Joseph Woll in net, Pastrnak could find his name on the scoresheet twice.

Woll recorded unspectacular numbers in the regular season, going 12-11-1 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .907 save percentage, and in his three appearances against the Bruins (Dec. 2, Mar. 4, and Mar. 7) he allowed exactly four goals each time.

Here are Pastrnak’s stats in those three outings with Woll between the pipes.

Pastrnak vs. WollGoalsAssistsPointsShots On Goal
Dec. 212310
Mar. 40337
Mar. 71014

Seven points in three games with an average of seven shots on goal against Woll is a solid track record for Pastrnak.

Pick: Pastrnak – OVER 1.5 Points

Best Odds: (+170) BetMGM

Jake Guentzel – LW, Carolina Hurricanes

Guentzel scored 22 goals in 50 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, and after being acquired by Carolina, he scored eight goals in 17 games.

For Guentzel, that would be 0.44 goals per game for the Penguins and 0.47 goals per game for the Hurricanes.

Guentzel’s goal scoring production did not drop even after moving into a deep set of forwards and playing less time on the ice (20:52 TOI in Pittsburgh, 17:29 TOI in Carolina).

Semyon Varlamov will be protecting the net for New York tonight, and any goalie in net for the Islanders should be concerned with Guentzel.

In three regular season meetings with the New York this season, Guentzel scored three goals, but in each of those contests, the Islanders’ starting netminder was Ilya Sorokin.

If the Canes have a late lead, it may not matter who the goalie is.

Carolina is going to need to get some offense going and Guentzel may be the most prolific goal scorer on the Hurricanes wildly talented forward group.

Pick: Guentzel – Anytime Goalscorer

Best Odds: (+165) FanDuel

Kyle Connor – LW, Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are down three games to one, but Colorado Avalanche goalie Alexandar Georgiev could be the opening for the Jets’ comeback.

Georgiev allowed seven goals to Winnipeg in Game 1, but has since solidified in net, not allowing more than two goals per game.

Based purely off Georgiev’s forgettable 2023-24 season, that run of success seems unsustainable.

Georgiev allowed three goals on 27 shots to the Jets on December 7th, then allowed four goals on just 15 shots against Winnipeg on April 13th, just before the playoffs.

It’s just a matter of time before the offensive floodgates open for the Jets.

Surprisingly, Winnipeg winger Kyle Connor has been left off the scoresheet in back-to-back games.

In both meetings with the Avs in the regular season, Connor picked up multi-point games, scoring two goals against Georgiev on December 7th and two assists on April 13th.

Connor will get the Jets’ offense back on track tonight.

Pick: Connor – OVER 1.5 Points

Best Odds: (+250) FanDuel

Quinn Hughes – D, Vancouver Canucks

In three regular season matchups against the Nashville Predators, Vancouver’s defenseman Quinn Hughes collected six assists, and in the first four games against the Preds in this series, Hughes has picked up four more assists.

There may not be a better passer at the blue line than Hughes.

Hughes continues to be an offensive catalyst for the Canucks, and he continues to terrorize Nashville defense.

Juuse Saros has recorded an .859 save percentage in the NHL playoffs thus far, and with explosive scorers like J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, and Brock Boeser frequently skating in front of Hughes, it’s just a matter of time before Hughes picks up another helper.

Pick: Hughes – OVER 0.5 Assist

Best Odds: (-118) FanDuel
