The Week 13 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles is a potential NFC Championship preview.
San Francisco is 8-3 this season, but they may be much better than their solid record already indicates.
The 49ers dropped three straight games in the weeks leading up to their Week 9 bye..
Since their Week 9 bye, the Niners are 3-0 with a scoring margin of 92-30.
San Francisco’s defense has allowed the least amount of points on average in the NFL, only 15.5 points per game allowed, and when compared to Philadelphia’s defense, it’s night and day.
Here’s a comparison of the 49ers and Eagles’ defenses from BestOdds EDGE:
Much like how I don’t believe San Francisco’s record is a true indicator of their strength, I feel the same about Philadelphia’s 10-1 record.
The Eagles record should look pretty impressive at the end of the season though, considering they have two matchups with the New York Giants in the last three weeks of the 2023 schedule.
Anyway, for this San Fran-Philly heavyweight bout, I’m going to place a Same Game Parlay on FanDuel.
Brock Purdy – OVER 254.5 Passing Yards AND OVER 1.5 TD Passes
The Philadelphia Eagles currently hold the best record in the NFL, and their passing defense has done next to nothing to assist that effort.
Philly’s defensive secondary continues to get peppered, allowing an average of 321.8 passing yards per game over their last four contests; which includes a 397-yard display from Washington Commanders’ quarterback Sam Howell.
In Purdy’s last four games, he is averaging 300.75 passing yards per game and has thrown eight touchdowns.

Purdy is averaging 261 passing yards through eleven games this season, and in this matchup, with a collection of veteran Eagles’ cornerbacks (James Bradberry, Darius Slay, Bradley Roby) getting burned regularly, Purdy should find some open receivers.
“Dirty Purdy” is going to keep doing his thing.
Pick: Purdy – OVER 254.5 Passing Yards (-114 FanDuel)
Pick: Purdy – OVER 1.5 TD Passes (-132 FanDuel)
Brandon Aiyuk – OVER 4.5 Receptions, OVER 65.5 Receiving Yards AND Any Time Touchdown
As I previously mentioned, the Eagles’ cornerbacks have been getting beat on a fairly regular basis, so I’m assuming San Francisco’s wide receivers can do pretty well in Week 13.
Philadelphia has allowed the third-most receiving yards to opposing wide receivers (2,157), only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2,173), and the Washington Commanders (2,355) have allowed more.
I like Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel this week, but I’ll start with Aiyuk.
Aiyuk has scored a touchdown in three straight games, and I expect him to make it four straight in Philly.
Aiyuk will be shadowed by Eagle’s cornerback James Bradberry, and receivers that have been predominantly covered by Bradberry are averaging 6.7 receptions and 81.5 yards against the cornerback in his 10 games played.
Also, the man covered by Bradberry has scored a receiving touchdown seven times in 10 games.
BestOdds EDGE projects Aiyuk to collect 67 receiving yards.
Aiyuk is averaging 88.8 receiving yards per game, so in this matchup against a weak defensive secondary, I like Aiyuk to have a big game.
Also, this graph from BestOdds EDGE shows how Aiyuk’s receiving yards totals have played out, week over week.
Aiyuk consistently goes up and down in yardage totals.
Last week was down, so it’s back up in Week 13.
BestOdds EDGE is giving me the green light on Aiyuk here.
Pick: Aiyuk – OVER 4.5 Receptions (-114 FanDuel)
Pick: Aiyuk – OVER 65.5 Receiving Yards (-114 FanDuel)
Pick: Aiyuk – Any Time Touchdown (+180 FanDuel)
Deebo Samuel – OVER 4.5 Receptions AND OVER 51.5 Receiving Yards
Moving from Aiyuk to Deebo Samuel.
Samuel has missed some time this season, which has made his name a little more quiet in this lethal 49ers offense, but he’s still a solid contributor.
After catching a season-high seven passes last week, it seems like Samuel’s injury issues are now behind him.
When Samuel receives more than four targets, which has occurred in four of his eight games played this season, he is averaging six receptions and 81.5 receiving yards.
With an explosive Philadelphia offense on the other sideline, I expect Samuel to receive more than four targets this week.
Samuel also has at least one reception of 20+ yards in six of his eight games this season, so he may not need too many catches to go over his receiving yards prop.

Also, Samuel was injured early in the game against the Browns, the 49ers first loss of the season. San Francisco then lost the next two games, both of which Samuel was absent.
The 49ers have not lost a game yet when Samuel plays all four quarters.
Pick: Samuel – OVER 4.5 Receptions (-102 FanDuel)
Pick: Samuel – OVER 51.5 Receiving Yards (-114 FanDuel)
Jalen Hurts – OVER 239.5 Passing Yards AND OVER 1.5 TD Passes
It’s rare when the Eagles play with a deficit, but at some point in Week 13, Philly may have to claw their way back.
With this San Francisco defense only allowing 82 rushing yards per game, I’d expect the Eagles to call more passing plays than usual.
The best chance to beat the 49ers is through the air, a playbook that Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins and Bengals QB Joe Burrow followed in Weeks 7 and 8.
Cousins threw for 378 yards and two touchdowns, and Burrow threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns, and both quarterbacks combined for an 82% completion percentage (63-for-77) in their wins over San Francisco.
Hurts has not been throwing as much lately, averaging just 16.3 completions and 185.7 passing yards per game over the last three weeks.
Prior to Hurts’ recent dip in passing numbers, he was averaging 24.1 completions and 267.5 passing yards per game.

In a huge NFC Conference matchup, and possibly playing with their back against the wall as home underdogs, I’m expecting the Eagles’ passing game to get back on track.
Even against this decent 49ers defense, Hurts can get back to his higher standard of passing that he showed earlier in the season.
Pick: Hurts – OVER 239.5 Passing Yards (-114 FanDuel)
Pick: Hurts – OVER 1.5 TD Passes (-106 FanDuel)
