At the start of this year, the ACC Conference looked to be one of the most competitive in all of college football.
Clemson has dominated the conference over the last decade, but Florida State was the betting favorite to start the season, not Dabo and his Tigers.
North Carolina and Louisville also had win totals set at 7.5 or higher to start the year.
When the dust settled, Florida State lived up to expectations on the field.
At the same time, Louisville exceeded expectations and surprised a lot of ACC bettors by finding themselves in the upcoming Conference Championship game.
2023 ACC Football Betting Odds Reports
The Clemson Tigers have been the ACC Conference champs in 7 of the last 8 seasons, but after this year, it will be 7 of the last 9.
Dabo Swinney and his Tigers started the season with a shocking 28-7 loss at Duke.
Clemson had a chance to get back into the ACC conversation with a Week 4 game against Florida State.
With under two minutes to play in a tied game, Clemson missed a 29-yard field goal that would have given them a very late lead.
Jordan Travis and the Seminoles then took advantage of that miss with a first-possession touchdown in overtime, and Florida State escaped with a 31-24 win over Clemson.
Florida State had close games against Clemson, Boston College, and Miami but managed to do enough in all three to remain undefeated.
Meanwhile, Louisville had a preseason win total of 8. The Cardinals squeaked out a win on the road against NC State before beating Notre Dame convincingly, 33-20.
Their ten wins on the season are helped by a 7-1 record within the Conference.
ACC National Title Odds
Florida State +3000
Jordan Travis was once a quarterback at Louisville before transferring to Florida State after just one season with the Cardinals.
Travis will be remembered as one of the great QBs in Seminoles’ history, but unfortunately, he won’t be remembered as a QB who led Florida State to a National Title.
Even if the Seminoles get to the National Championship game, it will be without their star player, who injured himself late in the regular season and announced that his college career was now over due to the injury.
Florida State hasn’t played in an ACC Championship game since 2014, which is also the last time they were crowned ACC Champs.
The journey to the Conference Championship has not always been easy. In Week 1, the Seminoles crushed LSU, and ACC bettors sat up and noticed.
In Week 3, Florida State squeaked by Boston College, and in Week 4, they needed overtime to beat a struggling Clemson team.
The only other team to really challenge the Seminoles after their win against Clemson was the Miami Hurricanes, who stayed within a touchdown but couldn’t beat their in-state rivals.
Louisville +17000
The Cardinals were 8-5 last year and 4-4 in conference play. That performance was enough to make a coaching change, and Louisville welcomed former Purdue HC Jeff Brohm as their new Coach.
Louisville did not have huge expectations under Brohm this year and could be found at +20000 to win the National Title in the off-season.
The Cardinals did not have to play Clemson this year but do have conference wins against Duke, NC State, Miami, and Notre Dame on their resume.
Louisville’s only loss was in a letdown game against Pitt after back-to-back wins against NC State and Notre Dame.
The Cardinals would rebound after their lone loss this year to win their next four games, setting up a date with Florida State in the Conference Championship.
Louisville has never won an ACC Championship, having only joined the Conference in 2014.
In their eight seasons playing in the ACC, the Cardinals watched Clemson win the conference championship game seven times.
Whether the Cardinals can beat Florida State this year is still to be determined, but Louisville fans will be happy that at least Clemson won’t be crowned ACC Champ for the eighth time in nine years.

There was a brief time during this season when Jordan Travis was in consideration for the Heisman Award.
Even without their star QB, the Seminoles are a 5.5-point betting favorite in the ACC Championship game.

Florida State is a perfect 11-0 straight up this year, but against the spread (ATS), they are just 6-5.
Louisville is 10-1 on the season, but like the Seminoles, against the spread, they are only 6-5 as well.
Louisville was only an underdog once this year, against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
The Cardinals covered the +6.5 spread and won the game outright, beating ND 33-20.
