The 2023 Atlantic Coast Football Conference looks set to be the most competitive one in recent years.

The ACC decided to eliminate divisions from 2023 onwards to try and match other Power 5 conferences like Pac-12, which could play a pivotal role in shifting the power dynamics within the conference.

Clemson has been the dominant force in the ACC in recent memory and has been crowned champions in 7 of the last 8 years, but Florida State will be looking to put an end to that this season.

The Tigers and the Seminoles may be the top two dogs in the conference, but other teams like North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, and Duke are also expected to be in the mix.

If you want to know more about the ACC’s top teams and which one should be on your radar this coming season, read on for our predictions.

2023 ACC Football Betting Odds Reports

The Clemson Tigers have been the conference champs in 7 of the last 8 seasons, so it’s no surprise that the bookies’ odds for 2023 reflect them as the ACC favorites.

Many think the Tigers will continue their dominance, even with the elimination of divisions, while others hope that Florida State will add some much-needed competition.

The likes of North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, and Duke may not be as heavily favored as the ACC’s top two teams, but fresh recruitment and the return of some crucial players could be enough to swing the tide.

Let’s see what each of the top teams in the conference has to offer:

The Favorites

Clemson

Clemson has been the ACC’s top dog in recent years. Winning the conference in seven of the last 8 seasons is no easy feat, but it’s something that head coach Dabo Swinney will be aiming to do in his 15th full season in charge of the Tigers.

The addition of Garrett Riley from TCU as their offensive coordinator could be pivotal in strengthening the team’s offensive endeavors.

QB Cade Klubnik will go from strength to strength, but the team will still miss the talents of Myles Murphy and Bryan Bresee.

Many bookies favor Clemson to go back to back in the ACC, and they are priced at +1600 to win the 2024 National Championship.

Florida State

The 2023 Seminoles seem like the only team that could go toe to toe with Clemson throughout the whole season.

Last year, they finished just behind the Tigers in the Atlantic Division with a 5-3 conference mark and a 10-3 record overall.

And with coach Mike Norvell entering his fourth season as head coach, you’d expect for things to start gelling for the team as they aim to move forward to the next level.

Key to the team’s success this season will be QB Jordan Travis and RB Trey Benson, as they will both be returning to Florida State instead of declaring for the NFL draft.

If the Seminoles can keep up their mean defense, which went from conceding 26.5 PPG to 26.5 PPG, then you can count on them finishing within the top two. And thanks to the ACC’s rule change, such a spot will earn them a place in the conference title game.

Apart from being one of the favorites for the ACC Championship, they are also reasonably priced nationally, with odds of +2000 to win the 2024 National Championship.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels had a decent 2022 season, with a 6-2 conference record that helped them finish first in the Coastal Division and a 9-5 record overall.

Mack Brown is in his fifth season in charge of North Carolina and has a new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey, who’ll want to ensure that the team’s offense shines just like it did the previous season.

Their greatest asset? QB Drake Maye, who could be in contention for the Heisman Trophy if he manages to match last season’s output — he accounted for 45 total touchdowns!

Maybe such numbers may be enough to take North Carolina to the promised land: the 2024 National Championship. Who knows? The bookies have them priced at +10000, so that would be the true definition of a long shot.

The Contenders

NC State

The Wolfpack didn’t have an impressive 2022 season. Overall, they finished joint third in the Atlantic Division with an 8-5 record overall and 4-4 in ACC play.

Dave Doeren will be entering his 11th season, and the team has a new offensive coordinator, Robert Anae, who was poached from Syracuse.

Payton Wilson decided to stay at NC State instead of declaring for the NFL draft, which will be good news for Wolfpack fans.

However, winning the ACC title will be a massive task for NC State, as they last did so in the 70s.

Going all the way in the National Championship will be even harder, as they are priced at +15000 by the bookies.

Louisville

With a 4-4 record in AFC play and 8-5 overall, Louisville also had a lackluster 2022 season.

Jeff Brohm, former head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers football team, joined the team during the offseason after leading Purdue to the 2022 West Division title.

With the Cardinals having to deal with a lot of departing talent, Brohm’s main goal should be to chase for a spot in the top 25 this year and maybe build upon that in the coming seasons.

They aren’t frontrunners for the ACC title, and their odds of winning the National Championship are higher at +20000.

Duke

The Duke Blue Devils are one of the teams that benefited from having a new coach. Their 3-9 record in 2021 was improved to 9-4 in 2022 after Mike Elko’s arrival.

In AFC play, they ended the 2022 season with a 5-3 record and finished joint second in the Coastal division behind North Carolina.

Sure, we don’t think that they’ll beat Clemson and Florida State to the ACC title, but we expect for such subtle improvements to continue under Elko’s tutelage.

Realistically, a top 4 spot in the conference should be the least of their aims, as well as a push for the top 25 in the College Football Rankings.

If you think they’ll crack the top 4 in the overall college football rankings and make the playoffs, you can back the Blue Devils at a staggering +50000 to emerge as National champs.

Pitt

Lastly in our preview, we have the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Just like Duke, the Panthers finished joint second in the Coastal division after a 5-3 ACC record and a 9-4 record overall.

Pat Narduzzi will be at the helm for the 9th straight season and has had a good spell with the Panthers, most notably leading them to the ACC title in 2021.

However, this season may be his most challenging yet as head coach.

Many starters and star players, including Israel Abanikanda, Jared Wayne, Erick Hallett II, and Habakkuk Baldonado, are all NFL bound, so this could yet be another transition season.
