In Part I of our Taylor Swift Effect Series, we detailed how Travis Kelce was clearly on his way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was likely trending toward being the greatest tight end of all time pre-Taylor Swift.

Below, we dig into Kelce’s on-field performance over the last three full NFL seasons (2023-2025) to see what impact, if any, his relationship with Taylor Swift had on his stats.
We also directly compare Kelce’s data before meeting Taylor with his three years since joining Team Swift.

Travis and Taylor: Kelce’s Stats With Swift Watching (2023-2025)

Kelce (Age 34-36): The Taylor Years (2023-2025)

Looking at the data above:

Kelce is again very durable, playing in all but 3 games for the Chiefs
93 and 97 receptions are a lot of catches. (2023 and 2024)
2023 – 984 Rec YDS was 2nd among tight ends (George Kittle – 1,020 Rec YDS)
2024 – 823 Rec YDS was 5th among tight ends (Brock Bowers – 1,194 Rec YDS)
2025 – 851 Rec YDS was 4th among tight ends (Trey McBride – 1,239 Rec YDS)

There is no doubt that Travis performed at an extremely high level with Taylor cheering him on. Consistently finishing top five or better among tight end receiving yards speaks to being really good.

Yellow Flags For Kelce Data:

The Taylor Swift years had a couple of yellow flags for Kelce statistically.

Although total receptions are similar, Kelce is starting to see a drop in his receiving yards per game. Before Swift, Kelce was a threat to lead the league in receiving yards.
Kelce also saw a steep drop in TDs. Despite averaging 16 games, Kelce maxed out at 5 TDs in a season.
Kelce is 37 years old and has played 200 regular-season games.

Clearly, Travis Kelce was still performing at a high level while keeping company with Taylor during the 2023-2025 seasons. The question is: how does it compare to his performance before Taylor arrived?

The Taylor Swift Effect: What the Data Says

Does the data below show that Travis Kelce performed at a very high level since becoming part of Team Swift? Yes, it does.

Does the data show that Travis Kelce performed at the same level or better during his time with Taylor Swift as he did before her? Um, not really.

It is worth noting that during his three full seasons with Taylor Swift, Kelce was age: 34, 35, and 36 years old. A downward trajectory because of age is expected. The question becomes: how much is acceptable?

Kelce Receptions:

In the 3 years before Swift, Kelce averaged over 100 receptions a season. That is truly elite.
Kelce’s receptions did drop once Swift arrived, but the volume of catches was still on pace with his HOF standards. 88 catches a year for 3 years is impressive, even if it’s down from 102.

Kelce Receiving Yards:

This is the stat that jumps out the most. Kelce averaged 81 rec. yards/game pre-Swift, and that dipped to 55.4 after Swift.
For Context, Tony Gonzalez averaged 56 YDS/GM over 17 years. Antonio Gates averaged 50.2 YDS/GM over 16 years. Rob Gronkowski averaged 64.9 YDS/GM over 11 years.
Kelce averaging over 80 yards per game before meeting Swift is well above HOF standards. Even the best at his position don’t come close to 80 yards per game long term.
His 55 yards per game after Swift is still very good, but the drop-off from 80+ is significant. Kelce goes from Peak Kelce to a very average version of himself quickly.

Kelce Touchdowns

I don’t know how random touchdowns are, but there is definitely data showing that Kelce was FAR MORE LIKELY to score a touchdown before meeting Taylor than after meeting her.

Before Taylor, Kelce averaged 16 games a season and 10.6 TDs per season.
Over the three years hanging out with Swift, Kelce scored only 13 touchdowns total and averaged just 4.3 per season.
10.6 to 4.3 is a huge drop in touchdown production.
In his last year as a solo act (2022), he scored 12 touchdowns. In three years with Swift, the most he scored in one season is 5.
Currently, Kelce ranks 5th all-time in TE touchdowns with 84. He trails A. Gates (116), T. Gonzalez (111), R. Gronkowski (92), and J. Graham (89).
