Atlanta Falcons 2026 Season Preview - image The Atlanta Falcons enter 2026 hoping a new coaching staff and a revamped roster can finally push the franchise back into the playoffs. Atlanta finished 8-9 for the second consecutive season in 2025, closing with four straight victories but missing the postseason. Kevin Stefanski takes over as head coach, while Ian Cunningham begins his first season as general manager. The Falcons still have an impressive offensive foundation built around Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts, but the biggest question entering September involves quarterback. Atlanta signed Tua Tagovailoa while Michael Penix Jr. continued recovering from the torn ACL that ended his 2025 season.

What to Watch

Quarterback will be the headline story. Tagovailoa has worked with the first-team offense during the preseason, but Penix received full medical clearance for 11-on-11 work on Aug. 22 and has since split first-team repetitions with Tagovailoa. That leaves Atlanta with a legitimate competition entering the final days before the regular season. Whoever wins the job will have plenty of weapons. Robinson remains the centerpiece of the running game, with London and Pitts leading the receiving corps. Atlanta also added Jahan Dotson, Olamide Zaccheaus and rookie Zachariah Branch at receiver, while Brian Robinson Jr. gives the backfield another physical option. The defense also received significant attention. Atlanta added Samson Ebukam, Christian Harris, Cameron Thomas and safety Sydney Brown while using its first 2026 draft selection on Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell, younger brother of Falcons standout A.J. Terrell.

Betting Outlook

Sportsbooks remain cautious despite Atlanta’s offensive talent. DraftKings listed the Falcons at +425 to win the NFC South as of Aug. 1, making them the division’s longest-priced team. Atlanta was +5500 to win the NFC and +13000 to win the Super Bowl. The win total is 6.5, with Over -146 and Under +125. That makes the quarterback competition particularly important for bettors. The schedule includes several difficult opponents, including Green Bay, Baltimore, San Francisco, Kansas City and Detroit, along with six NFC South games.

2026-27 Atlanta Falcons Schedule

Atlanta’s schedule includes four primetime games and a Week 9 international matchup against Cincinnati at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid. The Falcons have their bye in Week 11.

The Falcons have enough offensive talent to outperform modest preseason expectations. Whether they do so will depend heavily on Stefanski’s ability to settle the quarterback situation and turn Atlanta’s offseason changes into the franchise’s first winning season since 2017.
