The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is officially underway at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where more than 300 of the nation’s top draft-eligible prospects are being evaluated by executives, coaches, and scouts from all 32 NFL teams.

Running through early March, the annual event allows the league to evaluate talent ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April. The combine blends athletic testing, medical evaluations, and in-depth interviews that can dramatically reshape draft boards.

This year’s class has already generated significant buzz, particularly among defensive playmakers and explosive skill-position prospects.

Top Players Drawing NFL Attention

Among the most closely watched prospects is Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, whose rare blend of size, range, and explosiveness has solidified his status as a projected early first-rounder. Coaches have pointed to his versatility to rush the passer, cover tight ends, and play downhill in run support as traits that translate immediately to the NFL.

On the offensive side, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to post one of the fastest 40-yard dash times among skill players. His straight-line speed and open-field acceleration could elevate Love into the top half of the first round, particularly for teams seeking dynamic offensive weapons.

Defensively, LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane has drawn attention from teams looking to upgrade their pass defense. Meanwhile, Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq has emerged as a potential mismatch weapon thanks to his athletic profile and pass-catching ability.

Teams drafting in the top half of the first round are using the combine to finalize positional priorities, conduct follow-up interviews, and confirm athletic traits seen on film.

Skill Tests That Define Combine Week

While interviews and medical testing happen behind closed doors, the on-field workouts remain the public centerpiece of the combine.

The most high-profile event is the 40-yard dash, measuring straight-line speed and acceleration. The 10-yard split, recorded during the run, is especially critical for linemen and edge rushers as it evaluates burst off the snap.

Agility is tested through the three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle, which measure lateral quickness and change-of-direction ability — key traits for defensive backs, wide receivers, and linebackers. Explosiveness is gauged through the vertical jump and broad jump, while upper-body endurance is assessed via the 225-pound bench press.

Beyond standardized testing, players participate in position-specific drills. Quarterbacks throw scripted route combinations, defensive backs demonstrate fluid transitions, and pass rushers showcase hand technique and bend. These workouts often confirm scouting evaluations or expose concerns.

Interviews & Intangibles Matter

Teams consistently emphasize that numbers alone do not determine draft status. Formal interviews, whiteboard sessions, and psychological assessments play a major role in final evaluations.

Football IQ, leadership traits, and scheme fit often separate similarly graded prospects. Combine week also provides teams with updated medical information — a factor that can significantly impact draft positioning.

How the Combine Impacts NFL Draft Betting

Beyond front offices, the combine has become a major inflection point for NFL betting markets on the annual draft.

Betting odds for “first overall pick,” positional draft props, and over/under draft position wagers can shift dramatically based on testing results and team buzz. A standout 40-yard dash or exceptional agility performance can shorten odds almost immediately, while injury concerns or underwhelming showings can lengthen them.

Markets such as “first wide receiver drafted” or “first defensive player selected” are particularly sensitive to combine performances. Savvy bettors monitor not just testing numbers, but also reported team meetings and media narratives emerging from Indianapolis.

However, combine week represents just one data point. Pro days, private workouts, team needs, and film evaluation will continue to shape the draft in the coming weeks.
