NFL training camps are only a few practices old, but injuries are already becoming one of the biggest storylines heading toward the preseason. While many of the league’s biggest stars have reported healthy, several notable players have suffered setbacks or remain on recovery plans that could affect roster battles and futures betting before Week 1.
Fortunately for most contenders, the majority of injuries reported so far have been minor rather than season-ending. Teams continue to exercise caution with veterans returning from previous injuries, while coaches are closely monitoring workloads during the opening weeks of camp as players adjust to padded practices.
Biggest Injury News From Training Camp
Several injuries have drawn attention during the first week of camp.Buffalo Bills
Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson left practice after suffering a right leg injury, creating concern for one of the Bills’ key offseason additions. The severity remains under evaluation, though Buffalo is hopeful the injury is not long-term.San Francisco 49ers
Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall elected to undergo season-ending knee surgery after continued complications from a previous PCL injury. The loss leaves a significant opening in the 49ers’ receiving corps heading into the preseason. Rookie running back Jordan James also suffered broken ribs early in camp.Kansas City Chiefs
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy exited practice with a shoulder injury. Early reports indicate the injury is not expected to be serious, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been fully cleared after recovering from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season.Detroit Lions
The Lions have avoided major setbacks, although linebacker Jimmy Rolder is expected to miss time with a hamstring injury. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill returned after a brief scare during practice, providing positive news for Detroit’s defensive front.Chicago Bears
Rookie running back Kyle Monangai has missed several practices because of a soft-tissue injury. Head coach Ben Johnson described the injury as day-to-day, and the team is taking a cautious approach.Teams Remaining Healthy
Several Super Bowl contenders have largely avoided significant injuries through the opening portion of camp. Kansas City received a major boost with Mahomes’ full return, while Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Rams have escaped major setbacks among projected starters. As preseason games begin later this week, maintaining player health will remain the top priority for coaching staffs around the league.Betting Outlook
Training camp injuries often produce immediate movement in futures markets, particularly when they involve quarterbacks or All-Pro players. While no major contender has lost a franchise quarterback thus far, bettors are monitoring injury reports closely before making Super Bowl and conference championship wagers. Current Super Bowl favorites at many sportsbooks include:- Los Angeles Rams (+650)
- Buffalo Bills (+700)
- Philadelphia Eagles (+750)
- Baltimore Ravens (+800)
- Kansas City Chiefs (+850)
- Detroit Lions (+950)
