NFL Trade Market: Major Moves Made Before Training Camp

With minicamps underway and training camps right around the corner, the NFL saw several high-profile trades this week that could have a significant impact on 2026 rosters.
The two biggest moves of the week saw the Los Angeles Rams acquire superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots land Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Both deals immediately altered expectations across the league and generated movement in Super Bowl futures markets.
The trades come as teams look to maximize championship windows before the regular season begins. Garrett and Brown were among the biggest names available via trade this offseason.
Rams Make Blockbuster Move for Myles Garrett
The biggest deal of the week sent two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from Cleveland to Los Angeles. The Browns received edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round selection in return.
Garrett is coming off another dominant season and remains one of the league’s premier defensive players. His arrival gives the Rams one of the NFL’s most feared defenses and signals that L.A. is firmly in win-now mode heading into the season.
Patriots Add A.J. Brown
The second major trade saw the Patriots acquire wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Eagles. Philadelphia received a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection in exchange for the veteran receiver.
Brown reunites with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who coached him earlier in his career with the Tennessee Titans. The move gives second-year quarterback Drake Maye a true No. 1 receiver and addresses one of New England’s biggest offensive needs.
Brown has recorded multiple 1,000-yard seasons and immediately becomes the focal point of the Patriots passing attack.
Betting Impact and Futures Odds Movement
The Garrett trade had perhaps the biggest effect on futures betting markets. Several sportsbooks like FanDuel and DraftKings shortened Los Angeles’ Super Bowl odds following the deal as bettors reacted to the addition of one of the league’s best defensive players.
The Rams were already viewed as contenders, but Garrett’s arrival has pushed the squad closer to the top tier of NFC championship favorites.
The Patriots also saw modest movement in futures markets after acquiring Brown. While New England remains outside the group of elite Super Bowl contenders, the addition of a proven star receiver improved the club’s playoff outlook and AFC East odds for a team that made it to the Super Bowl last season.
For the Browns and Eagles, the trades represent a different strategy. Both teams acquired future draft capital while creating additional roster flexibility.
Cleveland also receives one of the league’s rising young pass rushers in Verse, while Philadelphia adds another future first-round selection to an already strong roster-building foundation.
With June 1 marking an important date for salary-cap flexibility around the league, executives expect additional trades before training camps get underway later this summer.
