MLB Playoff Race The 2026 MLB regular season is entering its final six weeks, and playoff races remain unsettled across both leagues. While clubs including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays have established themselves near the top of the standings, several division and Wild Card races could extend deep into September. The National League currently features baseball’s three best records. Milwaukee entered Friday at 79-49, followed by the Dodgers at 77-51 and Atlanta Braves at 75-53. The American League is less settled, with Tampa Bay leading the way at 76-51. The playoff format sends six teams from each league to the postseason. The two division winners with the best records receive first-round byes, making the race near the top of each league important even for teams that appear relatively secure in reaching October.

Teams to Watch in Each Division

  • AL East: The Rays have emerged as one of 2026’s biggest stories and hold a four-game advantage over the Yankees. New York remains firmly in the postseason picture at 72-55, while Boston is still alive at 68-59 after a dramatic turnaround.
  • AL Central: This may be the division to watch down the stretch. The White Sox lead at 66-61, but Minnesota, Cleveland and Detroit are all within 4½ games. Chicago was already in position for a potential first-round bye earlier this month, an unexpected development entering the season.
  • AL West: Houston sits atop a wide-open division at just 64-64, with Texas one game behind. Seattle is four games back of Houston and three games out of the final Wild Card position. The Mariners are also adding top pitching prospect Kade Anderson, who is expected to make his MLB debut Saturday.
  • NL East: Atlanta has built a five-game advantage over Philadelphia, but the Phillies are surging. Philadelphia has won six straight and eight of its last 10, keeping pressure on the Braves while strengthening its Wild Card position.
  • NL Central: Milwaukee owns baseball’s best record at 79-49, but the Cubs remain a significant postseason threat at 74-54. Chicago currently holds the NL’s top Wild Card position.
  • NL West: The Dodgers have established a commanding advantage at 77-51. The more compelling race involves San Diego and Arizona. The Padres occupy the final NL Wild Card spot at 68-60, with the Diamondbacks just one game behind.

AL and NL Playoff Picture

The AL remains considerably more volatile. Tampa Bay and New York have separated themselves in the East, but the Central and West remain open enough that numerous teams could still reach October. The NL has a clearer group at the top. Milwaukee, Los Angeles and Atlanta lead their divisions, while Chicago and Philadelphia have substantial Wild Card cushions. That leaves San Diego, Arizona and St. Louis among the clubs fighting most directly for the final postseason berth.

MLB Betting Outlook

The Dodgers remain the clear World Series favorite despite the crowded NL field. Current DraftKings futures listed by CBS Sports have Los Angeles at +170, followed by the Yankees at +750, Brewers at +900, Rays at +1100, Braves and Cubs at +1200, Red Sox at +1400 and Phillies at +1500. Odds can change quickly as the playoff race develops.
World Series Team Odds
Los Angeles Dodgers +170
New York Yankees +750
Milwaukee Brewers +900
Tampa Bay Rays +1100
Atlanta Braves +1200
Chicago Cubs +1200
Boston Red Sox +1400
Philadelphia Phillies +1500
The league pennant markets tell a similar story. Los Angeles is the team to beat in the NL, but Milwaukee and Atlanta offer alternatives among division leaders, with Chicago and Philadelphia positioned as dangerous Wild Card possibilities. In the AL, the Yankees remain the shortest-priced World Series option despite trailing Tampa Bay in the standings, while the Rays and Red Sox are also prominent contenders. With several tight division races and both Wild Card fields still capable of changing substantially, the final six weeks should also produce considerable movement in World Series and pennant futures.
