Major League Baseball’s 2026 trade deadline featured several blockbuster moves that could dramatically alter the postseason picture.

According to ESPN’s annual trade deadline awards, no move generated more attention than the Los Angeles Dodgers acquiring reigning Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal, a deal that immediately strengthened an already formidable rotation and reinforced Los Angeles’ status as one of the World Series favorites.

The Boston Red Sox also made headlines by acquiring All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, giving the club another cornerstone player as it continues its resurgence in the American League.

Philadelphia added first baseman Luis Arraez to strengthen one of baseball’s most productive lineups, while the New York Mets and several other contenders addressed key roster needs in hopes of positioning themselves for October.

Dodgers Land the Biggest Prize

No transaction matched the magnitude of the Dodgers’ acquisition of Skubal. Los Angeles paid a significant prospect package to Detroit, but the reward was adding one of baseball’s elite left-handed starters for the stretch run.

With Skubal joining a rotation already filled with frontline talent, the Dodgers further separated themselves from much of the National League.

The Dodgers once again demonstrated the team’s ability to leverage one of baseball’s deepest farm systems to acquire premier talent without significantly weakening its long-term outlook. The trade immediately became the defining move of the 2026 deadline.

Philadelphia addressed one of its biggest offensive needs by acquiring Arraez, whose contact-oriented approach gives the Phillies another dangerous hitter near the top of the lineup.

While several contenders made blockbuster additions, other clubs were notably quieter. The New York Yankees explored multiple high-profile trade possibilities but ultimately declined to part with several of their top prospects after asking prices remained exceptionally high throughout the market.
