Caruso’s Outlook (7+ points)

Alex Caruso has been a key part of Oklahoma City’s playoff run and is considered to be the savvy veteran on the team at 31 years old.

Thunder starting center Chet Holmgren went as far as describing the sixth man as “our goat”.

Caruso averages 23.9 minutes per game, which ranks him fifth on the squad. He’s improved his field goal percentage from 44.6% to 47.9% during the playoffs and is attempting seven field goals per game compared to 5.8 during the regular season.

This postseason, he’s averaged 10 points per game, which makes him the fourth scoring option behind Holmgren.

In his last 20 games, Caruso has recorded over 6.5 points on 16 occasions (80%) and has also done so in his past 9 out of 10 games.

He is currently on a six-game streak of eight or more points.

The College Station, Texas, native has seen success scoring against the Pacers this season and in the past.

He’s posted 13 points per game this campaign against them and has hit the seven-point mark in four out of five contests, which includes two 20-point games in the Finals.

In his last 10 head-to-head games against Indiana, he’s scored at least 7 points in 90% of them, dating back to March 5, 2023. Caruso played six games with the Thunder and four with the Bulls during that span.

Caruso is technically listed as a shooting guard on the depth chart for OKC, but is versatile, so he plays different roles on offense.

Indiana ranked 21st in the NBA in points allowed to opposing shooting guards this year. It also ranked 22nd to point guards.

With the Thunder listed as 9.5-point favorites, there is a chance for a blowout, and if one occurs, the Texas A&M product has performed well in first halves against the Pacers and recently at home.

In the finals, he’s averaged 7.25 first-half points and has scored seven or more in three of the four games thus far (75%).

During his last 10 games at home, he’s averaged 6.4 points during first halves. Throughout that span, the 2020 NBA Champion has scored seven or more points in seven of those first halves.

Caruso’s standard points total is listed at 10.5 points by most bookmakers.

McConnell’s Outlook (9+ points/assists)

During the regular season, McConnell averaged 13.5 combined points (9.1) and assists (4.4) per game in 17.9 minutes per game.

In the playoffs, the backup point guard has averaged 12.6 combined points (8.6) and assists (4.0) in 16.4 minutes per contest.

McConnell also boasts an impressive 52.9% field goal percentage, the 13th highest in the postseason (includes all positions). During the regular season, he ranked 22nd (51.9%).

The former Arizona Wildcat has hit nine or more P/A in all four Finals contests with an average of 13.75.

He’s also successfully reached it in nine of his past 10 games. In total, this season (playoffs included), he’s recorded at least 9 P/A in 81% of outings (80/99).

The 33-year-old veteran has excelled in these categories when facing the Pacers and is 6/6 against them this season, averaging 13.66 P/A per game.

McConnell also enjoyed playing against them last season, going 2-for-2, including a 16-point and 10-assist game (26 P/A) in just 21 minutes.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native has also seen many assist opportunities throughout this series (averaging 8.75 potential assists in 17 minutes per game).

Pace usually leads to more possessions, which gives McConnell P/A opportunities. Oklahoma City ranks second in the playoffs (100.43) for the category, and Indiana is third (98.70).

The Thunder were fifth (100.90) during the regular season, and the Pacers ranked seventh (100.76).

Sportsbooks list the nine-year veteran’s standard points and assists total at 10.5.
