American athletes have continue to deliver solid performances across at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Team USA has not only added to its medal haul over the last week, but also captured historic moments.

One of the biggest American stories has been speed skater Jordan Stolz, who etched his name in Olympic history by winning back-to-back gold medals.

Stolz set an Olympic record in the men’s 500 meters (33.77 seconds) and also took gold in the men’s 1,000 meters, repeating an elite double that only one other U.S. man, Eric Heiden, accomplished decades ago.

In alpine skiing, Ryan Cochran-Siegle earned a silver medal in the men’s Super-G, marking another strong performance from the U.S. alpine contingent. The result cemented his status as one of America’s most consistent downhill and Super-G skiers on the Olympic circuit.

Hockey & Figure Skating Excellene

The U.S. women’s ice hockey team has been a dominant force in Italy, continuing the momentum seen in earlier games. The Americans delivered a 5–0 rout of rival Canada, an historic shutout that was the largest margin of victory in Olympic women’s hockey history between these two nations.

Standout players like Hannah Bilka and Caroline Harvey drove the offense in that landmark win.On Monday, the team cruised to a win over Sweden in the semifinals and were set to take on the winer of Canada and Switzerland in the gold medal game. Team USA has been a heavy favorite to win gold.

On the men’s side, the U.S. team finished undefeated in group play, defeating Germany 5–1 in the team’s final preliminary match and rewarding fans show also enjoy some Winter Olympics betting.

Captain Auston Matthews led the charge with multiple goals, and the team’s strong performance positioned the Americans well heading into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The team is now at +210 to win the gold medal, with Canada favored at -140, according to FanDuel. Hockey and NHL betting fans have plenty of action left to check out.

Another memorable highlight for Team USA came in figure skating: Ilia Malinin and Team USA delivered a gold-medal performance in the team event, where Malinin’s free skate helped cement the victory.

Other Highlights

Athletes also excelled in other sports. Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin added to the American medal total, winning silver in mixed doubles curling — a historic achievement, as Thiesse became the first U.S. woman to medal in Olympic curling.

In cross-country skiing, Ben Ogden earned a silver, the first U.S. Olympic medal in that sport in nearly half a century.

What’s Ahead This Week

As the Olympics move deeper into the second week, several marquee event finals and medal opportunities await:

  • Jordan Stolz remains a threat for additional golds in the 1,500m and mass start speed skating events.
  • Freestyle and Big Air skiing finals, including qualifiers led by American Mac Forehand, will put U.S. skiers in contention for podium results.
  • The women’s figure skating individual free skate also takes place this week. With American skaters in strong contention after the short program, the free skate will determine medal placements and could add another podium finish to the U.S. total. Watch for Kaori Sakamoto, Madison Chock, and Alysa Liu in that event.

With weeks of competition still to come, American fans have plenty to watch — from individual stars chasing history to team events that could add more gold and silver to Team USA’s tally. For some highlights from the first week of action, click here.
