We are entering Week 6 in the NFL and the race to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has essentially turned into a two-man competition between electric Bucs’ rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and Giants’ rookie QB Jaxson Dart, who at the time of this writing, is 2-1 as Giants starter with wins over the Chargers and Eagles to kick off his career.

Egbuka and Dart have a sizable lead on the rest of the field to win this award, with Egbuka coming off of a monster outing against the Seahawks where he notched seven receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs thrilling 38-35 Week 5 win. Egbuka has put up 349 yards and two touchdowns in the last three weeks alone, and has quickly emerged as Baker Mayfield’s favorite option in Tampa.

Meanwhile, Jaxson Dart may be running away with this award if he started from day one, as the former Ole Miss product has reinvigorated Brian Daboll’s offense alongside fellow rookie Cam Skattebo, taking the Giants to wins in two of their last three games including a convincing 34-17 win over the Eagles on TNF to kick off Week 6.

Prior to the 2025 NFL Season kicking off, the consensus top two picks to be rookie of the year were that of Cam Ward and Ashton Jeanty, however, the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has tumbled from +250 to start the season all the way to 30-1 entering Week 6, while the former Boise State star running back has held steady, yet in a distant third in the race to be OROTY at +1000.

Before we jump fully into the race to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, here’s a quick look at where the odds line up prior to the start of Week 6.

The Favorites

Emeka Egbuka (+120) – WR – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If it weren’t for the emergence of Jaxson Dart over the last three weeks, the race for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year could have already been a foregone conclusion as former Buckeyes WR Emeka Egbuka has been nothing short of sensational in his first five games as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

Egbuka enters Week 6 with 445 yards receiving (4th NFL), five touchdowns (T-2nd NFL), and a blistering 17.8 yards per catch, which leads all NFL receivers with at least 20 receptions this season. Egbuka has had nine catches of 20 yards or more, only trailing fellow Buckeye alum Jaxon Smith-Njigba (10) in that category.

To make this even more impressive, Egbuka has done all of this with either Mike Evans or Chris Godwin out of the lineup in each of his five games. So his explosion in the passing game isn’t due to the defense not paying attention to him, quite the contrary actually, he’s the unquestionable #1 WR in Tampa Bay right now and Baker Mayfield is going to keep feeding him the football.

In my last update I said I wasn’t a fan of taking him at +360 entering Week 4, turns out that was probably a major steal and it’ll take a string of average games to put him in that range again.

Jaxson Dart (+185) – QB – New York Giants

It’s been a long time since Giants fans had hope for the future of their football team, but perhaps there’s light at the end of the tunnel after all, as the Giants suddenly find themselves with wins in two of their first three starts for the 25th overall pick from the 2025 NFL Draft.

Dart has been a pleasant surprise at the early start of his professional career, putting up 508 yards passing, four touchdown passes and two interceptions, in addition to rushing for 167 yards and another two touchdowns with his legs. While the numbers aren’t overly flashy, the Giants are winning games for a change and the fan base has been recharged after a woeful 0-3 start to the season.

Should Dart keep the Giants competitive the rest of the season and continue to improve on a weekly basis, he’s the only one that will keep pace with Egbuka at the top of the odds board, and given that he plays the most important position in the sport for a team based in the New York Metro area, and you can easily see Dart eventually coming out on top of this race.

In The Mix

Ashton Jeanty (+1000) – RB – Las Vegas Raiders

Ashton Jeanty began the 2025 NFL Season as the consensus favorite to eventually be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and for good reason. Jeanty was entering the NFL after an illustrious career at Boise State and landed in Vegas to play for Pete Carroll, a man who lives to run the football.

While Jeanty hasn’t been terrible in his rookie season, he hasn’t been the game changing running back football fans expected to see. If you remove his 21 carry, 138 yard day against the Bears (a game that included a 64 yard touchdown run from Jeanty), Jeanty managed only 53 yards per game with one touchdown.

The Raiders are in the middle of an ugly four-game losing skid as Week 6 kicks off, if Jeanty can help things turnaround he could conceivably get back into this race, but for now he looks like he will stay right around where he’s been for most of the season.

Tetairoa McMillan (+1200) – WR – Carolina Panthers

While one NFC South rookie wide receiver is flourishing on one of the best teams in football through the first five weeks of the season, another NFC South receiver has also flashed a lot of potential at the start of his pro career.

Tet McMillan enters Week 6 with 351 yards receiving on 24 catches, however, he’s yet to find the end zone and the Panthers are 2-3 and are an afterthought in the mind of voters and fans alike more often than not.

Tet is on pace for a very respectable debut season in Charlotte, however, he’s going to have to do a lot to overtake Egbuka who is stealing all the attention for wide receivers in the race currently.

Tyler Warren (+1400) – TE – Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have been one of the biggest surprises of the young season and dynamo tight end Tyler Warren has been a big reason why Shane Steichen’s offense has been humming on all cylinders en route to Indy’s 4-1 start.

New Colts QB Daniel Jones has immediately grown fond of the 14th overall pick out of Penn State, as he’s found Warren for 23 receptions and 307 yards (most amongst tight ends through Week 5).

In recent weeks, Warren has found the end zone with a receiving touchdown in their Week 5 blowout of the Raiders and a rushing touchdown in their tough Week 4 loss to the Rams. While he certainly looks like a star in the making, Warren’s uphill climb to win this award might be a bit too steep considering the names in front of him.

However, should the former Penn State star go on to win the award, he would become the first tight end in league history to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Worth A Totino’s Pizza Bet

Cam Skattebo (+1800) – RB – New York Giants

The list of viable long shot sleepers continues to dwindle with each passing week, and the Arizona State product figures to be the most likely candidate to rise up the odds board as the season progresses.

Cam Skattebo has been quite the treat to watch through the Giants first six games this season, and he’s coming off of a career night against the Eagles that saw him rush for three touchdowns in New York’s 34-17 win. However, it’s hard to truly buy into his ROTY chances given Jaxson Dart is likely going to vulture away a lot of the momentum Skatt would otherwise have to be in the mix for this award.

Nonetheless, a small Totino’s pizza bet on Skatt to win ROTY wouldn’t be any worse than that 12-leg parlay you’re going to throw in on Sunday. So why not?

Recent Trends For The NFL OROTY Award

Quarterbacks Rule the Spotlight

Just like in the NFL MVP, this is an award that trends towards going to the man under center.

Since 2000, 11 quarterbacks have won Offensive Rookie of the Year, including the most recent winner Jayden Daniels.

When a rookie QB starts right away, the award is often theirs to lose. Think Daniels last season, or C.J. Stroud in 2023 and Justin Herbert in 2020.

Running Backs and Wideouts Still Shine

While quarterbacks win this award at the highest frequency, don’t rule out the explosive running back or wide receiver, as in seasons where the rookie quarterback class is a bit weaker (like it’s shaping up to be in 2025) these are the skill positions on offense that come out winning the award.

There has never been a tight end named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and this award has also never gone to an offensive lineman.

Winning Isn’t Everything

The award is based on individual production, not team success. Plenty of winners have won the award while playing for teams that didn’t have the best seasons.

Recent examples of this occurring include Garrett Wilson winning Rookie of the Year in 2022 for the 7-10 Jets, Justin Herbert winning in 2020 for the 7-9 Chargers, Kyler Murray winning in 2019 for the 5-10-1 Arizona Cardinals, and Saquon Barkley winning in 2018 for the 5-11 New York Giants.

How The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award Is Decided

The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award is voted on by a panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. Each casts one vote, and the rookie with the most tallies wins.

Unlike MVP voting, there are no weighted ballots. The most votes take the crown. That means a player doesn’t need to dominate the consensus of the vote, just being the clear standout among their peers is usually enough.
