Outside of Houston, Texas, there are two types of people in this world.

Those who are tired of the whole Mattress Mack betting promotion story and those who somehow aren’t yet familiar with Jim McIngvale and his betting antics.

With over $3.5 million in bets placed on the Houston Cougars to win the March Madness tournament, Mack is staring down a $35 million dollar payout if the Cougars can pull it off this year.

A quick search of Mack’s Furniture Gallery website tells me that the most expensive mattress offered is priced at $4,100.

This luxury mattress comes with:

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure I have never owned a hand-tufted mattress before.

At $4,100 for this elegant mattress, Mack will be able to afford almost 9,000 of them if he wins the $35 million.

The good news for Mack, assuming he lives in the Houston area, it appears they will deliver his 9,000 mattresses for free.

Miami Vs. Houston

Considering that I was born and raised outside of Houston, my favorite team left in the tournament is anyone but the Cougars.

With that in mind, I’m looking for reasons to bet on Miami tonight.

The first reason I stumbled upon was looking at how the Cougars have performed against the spread this year.

For the season, Houston is 19-17 ATS.

However, as our graph above points out, the Cougars started the year as a great team ATS, and somewhere along the way, the sportsbooks got wise as to how good this team actually is.

• The Cougars started the year 7-2 ATS
• Since December 10th, the Cougars are 24-3 straight up
• Over those 27 games, Houston is just 12-15 ATS (44%)

Anyone who had blindly bet on the Cougars to cover the point spread over their last 27 games would be down (-15%) ROI.

A negative ROI is a disappointing return for a team with an  89% win percentage (straight up) over 27 games.

Rock You Like A Hurricane

Meanwhile, Miami against the spread is trending in a much different direction than the Cougars are.

• Miami started the season just 2-4 ATS
• Since their 2-4 start, the Hurricanes are 18-10 ATS (64%)
• If you had blindly bet the ‘Canes to cover in their last 28 games, you would be up 23% ROI.

Miami As An Underdog

Against Houston, Miami is a +7.5 Underdog tonight.

For the season, the Hurricanes are 7-2 ATS when getting points and have managed to win five of those nine games outright.

I’m not sure I have the courage to grab the ‘Canes at +280 on the moneyline, but I will be taking them at +7.5.
